About Us

Hiawatha Golf Course, designed by Jack Kidwell, opened for business by its original five owners, in 1961. Harold Crouch owned and operated the Mission Orange Beverage Company at this time and landed the golf course as one of his clients. Harold developed a love for the game of golf in his teens, when he caddied at the Mount Vernon Country Club. Though he didn’t start playing golf until his early 30s, he always had a dream of one day owning his own golf course. This dream became a reality when he was given the opportunity to buy out one of the owners. He jumped at the chance and became an owner of Hiawatha in 1963. He and his wife, Jackie, eventually bought out all the  other stockholders and became the sole owners,  with Harold taking care of the outside, while Jackie took over the snack bar and ensured the inside was always ready to welcome guests. Their four children, Nancy, Mike, Tim, and Angie helped with the family business over the years. Mike passed away on October 19, 2017, and is greatly missed by family, friends, and golfers everywhere. Tim, Angie, and Nancy are now operating the course, with much-appreciated help from our greenskeeper. Bobby Breece, and clubhouse employee. Barb Booth.
